Come join Holding Our Own on Friday, March 7th at 7:00 pm at The Women’s Building, 373 Central Avenue location for a screening of the documentary, “A Kiss for Gabriela.” Following the film there will be a thought-provoking, open discussion about sex worker activism.
“Gabriela Leite is the first sex worker to run for Brazilian Congress. ‘A Kiss for Gabriela’ tells the story of her 2010 campaign as she faces 822 opponents and challenges a male dominated political system to see if a sex worker, activist, wife, mother, and cultural icon since founding the clothing line, Daspu, can beat the odds and win the election.” (http://www.akissforgabriela.com/)
When asked what was important for viewers to know about her in order to understand the film, Gabriela responded, “My sense of personal freedom is so strong that, it almost enslaves me.” Gabriela and her recent efforts to decriminalize and regulate prostitution have been controversial and Holding Our Own wants to hear your thoughts!
